Tailor-made holidays in Split

Split is the gateway to Central Dalmatia and one of the best bases on the Adriatic for a tailor-made holiday. From the moment you step inside Diocletian's Palace to the moment you board a crewed yacht for Hvar, Brač and the Pakleni Islands, every part of your itinerary can be shaped around how you actually want to travel. We are a Croatia-based DMC and have been planning private trips out of Split since 2006.

What is a tailor-made holiday in Split?

A tailor-made holiday in Split is a custom itinerary built around your dates, party size, budget and pace. Instead of booking a standard package, you choose where to stay (inside the UNESCO-listed Old Town, the leafy Marjan peninsula, the beach district of Bačvice, nearby Trogir or a private villa on Brač or Šolta), how to get around (private transfers, a skippered boat, a fully crewed yacht, or any combination) and which experiences to add — private walking tours of Diocletian's Palace, Game of Thrones filming locations, wine tastings on Brač and Hvar, helicopter transfers, Krka National Park day trips. We assemble it into a single bookable trip with one point of contact.

When is the best time to visit Split?

  • May, June and September are the sweet spot — warm sea (20–25 °C), long days, and the islands are calm and uncrowded for boat days.
  • July and August are peak: vibrant nightlife on the Riva and consistent flat-water conditions for island-hopping, but Diocletian's Palace gets busy from late morning. Early-morning private tours and afternoon swimming stops on the Pakleni Islands work best.
  • October is excellent for shoulder-season luxury: harvest season on Brač and Hvar, fewer guests in the best villas, and the Adriatic still warm enough for sailing.
  • November to April is quiet, ideal for cultural city breaks, gastronomy weekends and indoor wellness stays.

What can a private boat tour or yacht charter from Split include?

Private boats and crewed yachts depart from Split's ACI Marina and the city Riva. Itineraries are flexible — a typical full day combines:

  • The Pakleni Islands off Hvar for swimming and a seafood lunch on the water
  • The Blue Cave on Biševo and the Stiniva cove on Vis in good weather
  • Brač with Zlatni Rat beach, Bol and the inland stone-carving villages
  • Šolta for quiet coves and family-run konobas
  • A sunset cruise along the Marjan peninsula and back into Split harbour

Multi-day charters extend to Korčula, Mljet National Park and Dubrovnik. See our private boat tours for day-trip options and the full boat charter range for week-long crewed yacht itineraries.

Where should I stay in Split?

The choice depends on what you want from the trip:

  • Diocletian's Palace and Old Town — for the romance of waking up inside a Roman emperor's residence; boutique apartments and small luxury hotels, walking access only.
  • Marjan and Meje — quiet residential streets on the wooded Marjan peninsula, with sea-view villas and easy walks to swimming coves; the easiest base for couples and families who want calm.
  • Bačvice and Firule — beachfront 4–5★ hotels a short walk from the Old Town, with pools and direct access to Split's main city beach.
  • Trogir — UNESCO-listed island town 25 minutes from the airport, with intimate boutique stays and a slower pace.
  • Private villas on Brač, Šolta or Čiovo — for groups of 6+ who want a private pool, dedicated host and full meal service, all within a short transfer of Split.

We work directly with hotel reservations and villa owners across all of these areas, so the rates and inventory you see are the live ones.

How do tailor-made holidays compare to booking everything separately?

A tailor-made itinerary typically costs the same as the sum of its parts, sometimes less, because we hold direct contracts with local skippers, yacht crews, drivers and villa managers — there is no third-party markup. The difference is in coordination: airport pickup at Split or Trogir, ferry alternatives, restaurant reservations on the islands, weather contingency for boat days, last-minute changes — all handled by one team on the ground. Most of our travellers come back for a second trip and ask for the same planner.

How far in advance should I book?

For May–October travel, six months of lead time is comfortable — the best villas, the most sought-after crewed yachts and the top-rated captains book out by early spring. For shoulder season and city breaks, 4–6 weeks is usually fine. We do accept short-lead requests (under two weeks) but availability narrows fast, especially for full-week crewed charters and peak-summer villa weeks.

How do I start planning?

Send us your dates, party size and the kind of trip you have in mind — we reply within one business day with a first proposal and live availability. There is no charge for the planning itself; you only pay for the components you choose to book.

A real treasure trove of history. Small in area, but huge on history. Highly recommend a walking tour. I paid €15 for small group tour. Changing of the Guard at 1200 is a little touristy but a nice touch.

Honestly spectacular. Can get very busy, but its beautiful. Sit and people watch in the daytime and enjoy a drink with live music at night. Early in the morning there are less people.

Diocletian’s Palace is an amazing place full of history, culture, and atmosphere. Walking through the ancient streets feels like stepping back in time. Beautiful architecture, lively cafes, and incredible details everywhere. A must visit destination in Split and one of Croatia’s highlights.

This spot is a wonderful place to explore near Split, especially if you're arriving by cruise, since it’s just a short walk from the port. You'll enjoy discovering this charming location easily and comfortably!

I'm giving this four stars because of the architecture, history and archeology. But it's very unfortunate that only a tiny part remains original and the vast majority has been turned into restaurants, souvenir shops and every type of tourist trap imaginable. It's too bad that the Croatian government and the local government in Split do not have more respect for history. It would have been much more appropriate to do all of the commercial development outside the walls of the old Palace and retain as much of the historical flavors possible
