About This Experience
Homer may have placed Odysseus here. Mljet — the greenest, most forested island in Croatia — has been casting a spell on visitors for three thousand years. Today it is protected as a national park, its ancient lakes and forest largely unchanged since the Greek poet wrote of the nymph Calypso keeping the hero captive for seven years on "the most beautiful island in the sea."
Reaching Mljet in style means arriving by yacht: gliding into its protected waters past uninhabited islets, dropping anchor in one of the Adriatic's most breathtaking settings, and stepping ashore as though you are the first visitor of the season — even in July.
Your private crewed yacht departs Hvar harbour with your guide on board. The first stop is Vaja Beach — a sheltered pebble cove on the route south — for a brief morning swim in utterly transparent water before the open sea passage to Mljet.
Arriving at Mljet National Park (the western third of the island, established as a park in 1960), the yacht anchors in the approach to the park's extraordinary inland lakes: Malo Jezero (Small Lake) and Veliko Jezero (Big Lake) — two interconnected saltwater lagoons separated from the sea by a narrow bar of land. Their water is filtered through limestone and warmed by the sun to temperatures several degrees above the open sea; swimming here is an almost surreal experience — completely calm, gin-clear, enclosed by walls of pine and oak forest that descend directly to the water.
The undisputed centrepiece of the lakes is the Church and Monastery of St. Mary (Crkva sv. Marije), perched on a small island in the middle of Veliko Jezero. Founded by Benedictine monks in the 12th century, the monastery's Romanesque church, Renaissance cloister and medieval fortifications reflect the extraordinary cultural ambition of a community that chose one of the most remote and beautiful places in the Mediterranean. Your guide takes you across to the island by local boat — the same journey that has been made for nine centuries — and narrates the monastery's turbulent history from Benedictine founding to Ottoman threats and eventual secularisation.
After the monastery and the lakes, the afternoon offers freedom: the yacht moves to a secluded cove of the skipper's choosing for lunch on deck and a long swim. If time and conditions permit, the return route passes by Šćedro — a tiny uninhabited island with a perfectly sheltered double-bay, entirely given over to silence and pine trees — for one final stop before the homeward course to Hvar.

Frequently Asked Questions
How long is the sailing to Mljet from Hvar?
Approximately 30–35 nautical miles, taking 2–2.5 hours by motor or 2.5–3 hours under sail depending on wind and vessel. The skipper adjusts to conditions.
Is Mljet suitable for swimming?
The saltwater lakes of Mljet are among the finest swimming in Croatia — calm, warm (27–28°C in summer), and surrounded by dense pine forest. There are no waves or currents. Sea swimming off the yacht is also available in park-adjacent coves.
What is Vaja beach?
Vaja (Uvala Vaja) is a sheltered pebble cove on the south coast of Hvar — typically the first stop on the southward route, offering transparent water and a peaceful 20–30 minute swim before the longer crossing.
Is Šćedro always visited?
Šćedro is included on the return route when time permits — typically in the late afternoon. It is an uninhabited island with beautifully sheltered bays, known only to sailors. The skipper makes the call based on time and conditions.
Can we have lunch on board?
Yes — the yacht has a cockpit table for comfortable dining at anchor. We recommend arranging catering (local food boxes, charcuterie, fresh fish) at booking. The guide can also organise a restaurant reservation in Mljet village Pomena if preferred.
What places will we visit?
The places you visit depend on the specific private boat tour, yacht route, weather conditions and the time available on the water. Each product page lists its own suggested itinerary and main highlights.
For Dubrovnik private boat and yacht experiences, routes may include islands, secluded bays, swimming stops, coastal towns, caves, Boka Bay, Montenegro coastline or other points of interest depending on the selected tour. Final routing is agreed before departure and may be adjusted by the captain for safety and sea conditions.
Can the private boat route be customized?
Yes. Most private boat tours and yacht experiences can be customized within the confirmed duration of the tour. You can usually adjust the balance between sightseeing, panorama cruising, swimming, lunch, time ashore and direct transfer time.
The final route always depends on yacht availability, weather, sea conditions, port rules and, for cross-border routes such as Dubrovnik to Montenegro, border formalities.
What private boat tour versions and combinations are available?
Private boat tours from Dubrovnik can be arranged in different versions depending on the selected product, yacht or speedboat class, destination, duration and preferred pace. Some routes are focused on swimming and hidden bays, others on coastal sightseeing, island hopping, lunch stops, transfers or cross-border yacht routes such as Dubrovnik to Montenegro.
Combinations are possible when they fit safely within the confirmed tour duration. The final plan is agreed before departure and may be adjusted according to weather, sea conditions, port rules and captain recommendation.
What is the price on this boat trip and do you need to prebook
Prices you can view under the options tab. You can choose to reserve now and pay later for this tour.
What is a difference between your boat classes (medium, high, executive, luxury)
At first, the difference is in the size of the boat, which represents how many people feel comfortable on such a boat to enjoy the sea. Then, if you are not already familiar, the ships have different equipment and designs.
Most medium-class boats are with outboard motors up to 6.5 meters long. Then come high-class boats with inboard engines, which is not necessarily the case. The biggest difference between medium and high-class boats is in the equipment and design. The high-class speedboat is mostly sporty and recommended for up to 4 people, while the medium class is recommended for 2 people.
Executive boats are 8-9 meters in size, newer years with outboard or inboard engines, but all have toilets. In the Executive class of boats, we are talking about luxury speedboats of recent years with a lot of equipment and an attractive appearance.
Motor yachts are 9 - 11 meters long, with a saloon, flybridge, kitchen, and stern for swimming. Executive motor yachts are 11 - 14 meters long, but more recently built.
Luxury yachts are a story by themselves, this is really about great luxury for people who demand such a service.
If you are not sure what kind of boat you want, consider that the captain of the boat is responsible for providing you with the best possible service. All our captains are professionals and will do everything for you to have a great time.

How much does a private boat or yacht tour from Dubrovnik cost?
The price depends on the selected route, tour duration, boat or yacht class, group size, season, fuel requirements and any optional services such as lunch, transfers, guides or special arrangements.
Shorter Dubrovnik boat tours usually have a different price structure than full-day private yacht routes or cross-border experiences such as Dubrovnik to Montenegro. For tailor-made routes, we confirm the final price in the personalized offer before booking.
Do we only cruise by boat, or can we also stop ashore?
Both options are possible on most private boat and yacht tours. Some guests prefer a relaxed panorama cruise with swimming stops, while others want time ashore for sightseeing, lunch or a short walk in a coastal town.
Stops ashore depend on the selected destination, local docking options, weather, sea conditions and the total tour duration. The captain and operations team will help shape a realistic route for the time available.
How many guests are joining you on the boat?
All our boat tours are private, without joined travellers. We can accommodate the number of guests permitted by the specific boat's licence, so please tell us your group size and we will recommend the best option.
